HISTORY OF WILDLIFE CONSERVATION OF INDIA

 

India is a very vast country with a good diversity of wildlife and from the starting of human civilization people are into protect wildlife species which you can realize from some rock painting that people are praying wildlife as god later also some sculpture and symbols found in Indus Valley Civilization.

       The first thought of conservation came at the time of dynasty of Ashoka, at “rock edict I- 260BCE” he Prohibits animal slaughter and killing of animals (Kandhar Bilingual Rock Inscription). After a long time during british colonization they started building sanctuary to prevent wildlife (it was just a protection for future consumption) after a long time of independence in the year 1972 Govt. of India passed a bill “Wildlife Protection Act 1972” to protect Plant and Animals and at the next year 1973 launched one another conservation program “Project Tiger” and after a long time now anyone can notice the flourishing diverse population in India. India is home for worlds 80% tiger population, 70% One Horned Rhinoceros entire 100% population of Asiatic Lion and many more in this diverse country.
