Melanistic leopard or black leopard spotted in Nilgiri
Offsprings of an IndianLeopard and BlackPanther pair, the photograph dispels the myth that they are two different species. While leopards usually have a golden-yellow or tawny coat with black spots, leopards affected by a genetic mutation known as melanism have an excess of the dark pigment called melanin, giving their fur a black appearance.
